Michelangelo sculpted the David for the Pazzi family in Florence. He made it out of a block of marble that other sculptors had rejected as imperfect. Michelangelo did this sculpture for the Pazzis during the Medici exile, this was a true betrayal of the Medichis because they had been his patrons since his talent was discovered as a teenager.

This is one of Michelangelo's Madonnas known as the Tondo Doni. It is also sometimes referred to as the holy family. It is a unique take on an icon religious image.
This is another one of Michelangelo's Madonna's titled the Madonna of Bruges. She is a more traditional Madonna and child carved of marble. Michelangelo believed that every statue he carved already existed inside the block of marble he was chiseling it from, and he was only releasing it. He felt it was his duty as the artist to do so.
